By definition, an Emergency Management Agency is responsible for comprehensively planning for and responding to and recovering from all manner of disasters, whether man-made or natural. Perry County’s First Responders are dedicated to saving lives every day.
The Office of Emergency Management is tasked with administering and directing a program of comprehensive Emergency Management and Homeland Security issues designed to reduce the vulnerability of citizens and communities of this County to damage, to injury and to loss of life and property by providing a system for the mitigation of, preparedness for, response to and recovery from natural or man-made disasters.
The Office of Emergency Management also encourages you to sign up to receive Emergency Alerts. Click on the "Sign up for" image and you can register your home and/or cell phone numbers to receive weather warnings, disaster information or other Code Red alerts that are important to saving lives in the event of disasters.
The Office of Emergency Management reminds everyone to Be Prepared. Have a Plan. Have a Kit. Get Trained.
When disaster strikes, how will you be notified of potential emergencies? The CodeRED solution will provide you the easy and reliable notification tools you need to be prepared. Learn more today!
As a member of the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads, an Association of Life Saving, Rescue, and First Aid Units with members organized, trained, and equipped for various types of rescue and first aid work, the Perry County Rescue Squad members voluntarily give of their time and effort without compensation to the development of accident prevention and first aid procedures, the widespread education of the public in such procedures, and to the necessary rescue and first aid work for the relief of their fellow men.
Perry County’s emergency needs are served by a dedicated team of volunteers and professionals who coordinate with the all-volunteer Rescue Squad and the Fire Departments of Linden and Lobelville. These First Responders commit to intensive ongoing training to prepare for the emergencies that we face in our community – whether they are health, fire, accidents, weather-related or natural disasters.

In an emergency, call 911 immediately.
An emergency is any situation that requires immediate assistance from the police, fire department or ambulance. Examples include:
- A fire
- A crime, especially if in progress
- A car crash, especially if someone is injured
- A medical emergency, such as someone who is unconscious, gasping for air or not breathing, experiencing an allergic reaction,
having chest pain, having uncontrollable bleeding, or any other symptoms that require immediate medical attention
Important: If you’re not sure whether the situation is a true emergency, officials recommend calling 911 and letting the call-taker determine whether you need emergency help.
When you call 911, be prepared to answer the call-taker’s questions, which may include:
- The location of the emergency, including the street address
- The phone number you are calling from
- The nature of the emergency
- Details about the emergency, such as a physical description of a person who may have committed a crime,
a description of any fire that may be burning, or a description of injuries or symptoms being experienced by a person having a medical emergency
Remember, the call-taker’s questions are important to get the right kind of help to you quickly.
Be prepared to follow any instructions the call-taker gives you. Many 911 centers can tell you exactly what to do to help in an emergency until help arrives, such as providing step-by-step instructions to aid someone who is choking or needs first aid or CPR.
Finally, do not hang up until the call-taker instructs you to.
If you dial 911 by mistake, or if a child in your home dials 911 when no emergency exists, do not hang up—that could make 911 officials think that an emergency exists, and possibly send responders to your location. Instead, simply explain to the call-taker what happened.
The help that the Legal Aid Society (LAS) can provide will depend on the kind of problem. They will always help you find some resources for help and advice, but don’t have lawyers to help with every case. A lawyer from Legal Aid Society or their Volunteer Lawyers Program may be able to represent you in the following kinds of cases:
We also have Legal Help Booklets just below. They may be of some help for you with your legal problem.
If you want to talk to a lawyer for advice about your problem, you can come to a Free Legal Help Clinic. Click to see times and dates for legal advice.
You can also go on-line and ask a lawyer a question. Click here for TN Free Legal Answers.
Legal Aid Society only takes legal problems and cases that you yourself can’t go to jail for.
If you have a criminal case, you need to call the Public Defender’s office.
Their booklets tell you about your legal rights and legal problems you can solve yourself. Some of these booklets are about cases we take. Some are about cases we don’t take.
If you have a criminal case, call the Public Defender’s office. Here is a list for all Public Defenders' offices in Tennessee. DOWNLOAD HERE

We take as many cases as we can. We are sorry we don’t have enough lawyers for everyone.
We still may be able to give you one-time legal advice. Or tell you where else you can get help.
Need FREE help from a lawyer on the spot? Come to one of our free legal help clinics. They are open to people with low income who have a legal problem. But we can’t help with criminal problems.
Legal Aid Society and the Volunteer Lawyers Program have a place for you to go to talk with a lawyer. The lawyer will give you advice about your problem. The help is free. But we can’t help with criminal cases. You don’t need an appointment unless it says you must call.
Have papers about your legal problems? Bring them. Someone will ask you about your legal problem. They will also ask about your income. But you don’t have to have a certain income to get advice. Then you will meet with a lawyer. How many people can talk to a lawyer depends on how many lawyers come AND how many people come.

Each county in Tennessee has a county health department, with some larger counties having multiple facilities. A total of 89 primarily rural county health departments operate under the direct supervision of the Tennessee Department of Health, headquartered in Nashville, while the six larger, urban counties – Madison, Shelby, Knox, Davidson, Hamilton and Sullivan – have health departments that operate under local governance but work closely with the Tennessee Department of Health.
Directors of the 89 primarily rural health departments are appointed by the Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Health. Directors of the six larger, urban county health departments are appointed by their county leadership. In some instances, a health board appointed by the mayor will provide recommendations regarding these appointments. Here are links to the larger, urban county health departments in Tennessee:
Services provided by rural and urban health departments vary, reflecting population health needs and the capacity of funding available from year to year.
There are many COVID-19 vaccines currently in development and in clinical trials. The availability of a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine depends on the outcomes of the Phase 3 clinical trials that are currently underway. If and when a vaccine is shown to be safe and effective in the Phase 3 clinical trials, it will be issued authorization by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in a limited number of individuals who are at high-risk for developing COVID-19 or who are at high risk of serious complications from COVID-19. The vaccine will continue to be monitored as it is used in larger populations to ensure that any indication of rare complications from its use are detected as soon as possible and evaluated to see if they were caused by the vaccine.
The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) is working to ensure that a vaccine can be allocated and distributed to priority populations once that is made official. TDH will continue to monitor and share information about the COVID-19 vaccine on this webpage as it becomes available.

The Linden Library has been temporarily closed due to flooding in November, 2020. The reopening is scheduled for February 9, 2021. The Lobelville Library has been filling the void for our patrons, but once the doors reopen, we will be looking for all of you to come see the brand new library and appreciate all the hard work that went into this reconstruction effort.
With two branches, the Perry County Library offers the joyful access to reading to the entire community for children and adults. Each library stocks DVDs that can be checked out for a movie night at home with family and friends. There are audio books for those who would love to relax while someone reads to you. And there is a Genealogy Research Room for those who are in search of their own stories.
Activities for young children, teens and adults take place at both branches and include crafts, computer support, book signings and story times. The Library supports Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which delivers free books to children under age 5.
The Library’s professional staff is supported by a volunteer Board of Directors who work passionately to bring the joy of reading to Perry County’s residents. The Board meets every other month on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 4:15 p.m. in the Linden Branch. The Board Meetings are open to the public.
