The stage is being constructed on the lot adjacent to City Hall. Similar to those in Clifton and Waynesboro, the stage will be covered in an amphitheater style with sloping roof, and have two dressing rooms and a restroom. It will be suitable for all sorts of open air events.
Construction is being funded buy a state tourism grant of $75,000 (with no local match) and an appropriation of $12,000 from the county's tourism fund, just approved at the May meeting of the County Commission. Proceeds from the Tennessee River & Resort Act support the local tourism fund - not property tax dollars - and the monies must be used to promote tourism.
Mayor Moore said plans are to have the grass down next week, weather permitting. "Winstead Turf is helping in a big way," the Mayor said, "and Quality Building Supplies is handling the construction.
