Turnout was impressive overall at 64.81% county-wide, but District Four voters had even higher numbers: 71.37% at Brush Creek, the highest of any of the county’s ten precincts, and 66.72% at Lobelvillle Public Works.  Three other precincts also exceeded the county-wide average: Pope (66.83%), Coon Creek (67.01%), and Flatwoods (69,46%).

For reference: Perry County turnout in the 2016 Presidential election was 55%, and in 2020, local participation was 61.97%.  About two-thirds of Perry County’s balloters took advantage of absentee or early voting privileges. An even 100 voted absentee, and 2,721 voted early. The balance of 1,414 turned out November 5.  Four years ago, 2,254 voted early and absentee, and 1,189 voted on election day.

Following a brisk voter registration period that ended October 7, Perry County’s number of registered voters grew from 5,550 in 2020 to 5,763 this year, an increase of 3.8%.

 

In state and federal elections, Republicans won across the board:

President-elected Donald Trump won both the popular vote (73,579,777 or 50.7%) and 295 electoral votes to defeat Democrat Vice-President Kamala Harris who received 226 electoral votes and 69,257,137 popular votes (47.7%).

In Perry County, the Trump/Vance ticket earned 3,139 (84.38%) to Harris/Walz’ 558 (15%). Statewide, the unofficial total for Trump/Vance was 1.964 million, and for Harris/Walz, 1.055 million.

Independent candidates received no or few local votes: Bowman, 2; De Le Cruz, 0; Fruit, 1; Kennedy, 11; Stein, 5; and there were five write-ins.

Senator Marsha Blackburn won in Perry County with 2,906 votes (82.02%) and was re-elected statewide to another six-year term over Democratic challenger, State Representative Gloria Johnson who garnered 569 votes here. Across Tennessee, Blackburn received 1.917 million to Johnson’s 1.03 million.

Congressman Mark Green won re-election to the Seventh District two-year seat by a comfortable margin, defeating Democrat and former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry, 191,832 to 122,593, In Perry County, Green received 2,776 votes to Barry’s 601.  State Representative Kirk Haston, who was unopposed for the second time, won re-election to his fourth two-year term with 3,057 local votes, Across the 72nd District, which includes his home county of Perry as well as Decatur, Chester, and parts of Hardin and Henderson counties, he earned 25,910 votes.
